Join A/WA member Isaac De Reza and artists Oskar Pawelko and Weronika Wysocka for an exploration of “The Rite, Raid, Ride”, a poetic film created by Pawelko and Wysocka. The work balances on the border of different aesthetics and combines motives from different orders and times, including rituals and technology, beliefs and science, and mythologies and science fiction. The session will explore themes of reality overload, loss of self and the search for transcendence and community through rituals and ceremonies.
This event has been organised by artist and A/WA member Isaac De Reza. The session is free to attend and will be held on Zoom. Please register by emailing info (at) artworkassociation.org. Registered attendees will receive the link 10 minutes in advance of the discussion.
Oskar Pawelko lives and works in Berlin. Oskar is a multidisciplinary artist, performer, and dancer, and conceives and directs experimental performances. He has worked for the artists Dorota Gaweda and Egle Kulbokaite, Cassie Augusta Jørgensen, Matt Lambert and Michal Borczuch, and has performed in museum spaces including Galerie Georges-Pompidou (FR), EPFL University, Lausanne (CH), Kunsthalle Mainz (DE) and Zacheta Narodowa Galeria Sztuki, Warsaw (PL).
Weronika Wysocka lives and works in Frankfurt. Her work addresses fantasy-inspired theory, science fiction, the impact of technology on human beings, politics, and nature, and the discursiveness of the universe. She is deeply inspired by astrophysics, its relation to humanity, and its exploration of the caricature-like nature of our world. Through speculative worlds and fictions, Wysocka’s work draws on genesis-related theories, Slavic mythology, and queer, eco and feminist theories.
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (diploma in the Studio of Spatial Activities), Wysocka was an exchange fellow at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem and the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Currently, she studies at Staedelschule with Gerard Byrne.
Isaac De Reza is a multi-disciplinary artist based in London and Mexico City. His practice is based on performative action, departing from emotional commitment that seeks inventive ways to express the meaningfulness of embracing the world in utter presence. He explores the realms of poetic meaning, the in-between spaces of cognition and legibility, as well as the politics of the body in contemporary cultural systems. Highlighted group exhibitions include QueerDirect at Sadie Coles The Shop (March 2022, London), “Aufstrebende Künstler” at Proyecto Paralelo (Feb 2022, Mexico City) and “Neonorte” at Fundación Cultural Providencia (August 2018, Santiago de Chile).
