Art/ Work Association (A/WA) is a peer forum of artists and creative workers. Members of A/WA generate an ongoing programme of talks, screenings, seminars, reading groups, workshops and critical feedback sessions, conceived as a platform for artist-led learning.
The forum is free to join and open to early-career artists, practitioners and creative workers. Members gain support through self-organised learning, critical dialogue and access to a proactive network of early-career artists living and working in London. Sessions take place once a month and are hosted at the artist-led organisation Auto Italia.
Joining A/WA offers access to a monthly newsletter through which members receive regular updates on upcoming sessions in the programme. All sessions are free to attend and members can choose which sessions they want to participate in.
Since 2013, learning opportunities have been delivered by artists, curators and writers including Oreet Ashery, Simon Bedwell, Shu Lea Cheang, Elaine Constantine, Cécile B Evans, Ed Fornieles, Mark Fisher, Evan Ifekoya, Shama Khanna, Mark Leckey, Huw Lemmey, Eric Pussyboy, Jenna Sutela, Christopher Kulendran Thomas and Catherine Wood amongst others.
If you would like to join A/WA or RSVP to a session please follow this link or get in touch at info(@)artworkassociation.org
We are inviting members to submit proposals for an ‘in conversation’ style talk with a guest of their choice. Do you have an idea for a talk? Get in touch at info@artworkassociation.org
Talk Guidelines:
– Events are organised by 1 member who hosts an ‘in conversation’ style session with 1 invited speaker. The session needs to focus on the invited speaker’s expertise. If you aren’t a member, please sign up by following the link above or drop us an email.
– Not a member yet? You can sign up through the link above or send us an email.
-Selected members will host this talk online for other A/WA members to attend. Talks are 45 minutes long with 15 minutes at the end for a Q&A.
-Auto Italia facilitates the talks online via Zoom, however it is the selected applicant’s responsibility to liaise with the guest they are hosting a talk with.
We are interested in sessions that explore a broad range of topics and perspectives. This could include pop culture trends, innovative artistic expressions, political movements or cultural phenomena. You do not need to collaborate with a visual artist; previous guests have included scientists, activists, journalists, choreographers and critics.
Compensation:
A fee of £250 is paid per session to cover all materials and speaker fees.
Sessions take place at: Auto Italia, 44 Bonner Road, London E2 9JS
