Join artists Akinsola Lawanson and James Raphael Tabbush for a journey through conspiracy theories, ghosts and Ifá divination. The session will combine screenings of Lawanson’s recent moving image work with a collaborative and performative exchange of research through text, sound and image reflecting online performance, game spaces and dreamlike narratives.
This event has been organised by artist and A/WA member James Raphael Tabbush. The session is free to attend and will be held on Zoom. Please register by emailing info (at) artworkassociation.org. Registered attendees will receive the link 10 minutes in advance of the discussion.
Akinsola Lawanson is a British-Nigerian multidisciplinary artist living and working in London. He works in moving images, installations and video-game engines in projects that examine relational systems, digital technologies and process philosophy. Akinsola’s video works are inspired by the alt-Nollywood movement, which borrows narrative, stylistic and visual conventions of Nollywood but with politically subversive ends. He has exhibited at South Kiosk, London (2022), and Humber Street Gallery, Hull, and South London Gallery as part of Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2022).
James Raphael Tabbush is an artist living and working in London. Using moving image, writing and sound, he explores the emotional effects of image production and distribution. His recent works have employed the formats of software tutorials, ASMR, meditation aids, vlogs and algorithmically created viral content. His recent exhibitions include Somers Gallery, London (2022), Cosmos Carl, online (2021), and Mullae Art Space, Seoul (2021).
